Recognizing Lisa See’s profound appreciation for her book clubs and direct communication with readers, we wanted to capture and showcase their interactions with her books. By integrating images depicting the book clubs’ engagement, we celebrated their enthusiasm and created a sense of community within the website.
A standout feature of Lisa See’s website is the creation of special microsites she calls “Step Inside” for each of her books. These microsites serve as immersive experiences where readers can delve deeper into the world of her books, exploring videos, articles, photos, and historical context. Additionally, Lisa shares captivating images of the places she has visited in relation to the books’ topics, enriching the reader’s understanding and connection with the narrative.
When we migrated Lisa’s website to our servers, we devised a clever approach to seamlessly incorporate each microsite within the current new design while preserving its intended functionality. This ensured a cohesive user experience throughout the website, maintaining both aesthetics and functionality.
Furthermore, as part of the migration process, we took great care in redirecting older links and pages to their corresponding current counterparts. We implemented a solution that allows for seamless redirection even when utilizing HTML anchors. For example, readers can simply use a slash in place of a specific link (e.g., step-inside/island-of-the-sea-women/lisas-trip forwards to step-inside/island-of-the-sea-women#lisas-trip) for many of the Step Inside features, and it will intelligently forward them to the desired content. This ensures a smooth transition for existing visitors while maintaining the integrity of Lisa See’s online presence.
